Dance Education Dissertation Fellowships

Whether you're working towards a Doctor of Education (EdD) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Education, doctoral grants for teachers and doctoral grants for education can save you thousands.

Like scholarships, grants offer free student aid that won't need to be repaid. Most organizations award grants to fund dissertation research and/or service projects. Grant money can help teachers return to graduate school and follow their doctoral dreams.

1. AERA Doctoral Dissertation Grants

Deadline: January 20th

Annually, the American Educational Research Association (AERA) gifts one-year Doctoral Dissertation Grants for $20,000 apiece for PhD candidates at the dissertation writing stage of an accredited doctoral program in the United States. Students must be conducting research related to K-12 or college teaching, but priority is given to topics on student achievement in STEM and bilingual education. Applications must include a proposal narrative, reference list, budget, curriculum vitae, and letter of recommendation.

2. ASHF Student Research Grant

Deadline: May 22nd

Teachers interested in speech-language pathology could qualify for the $2,000 Student Research Grant from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHF) to fund studies related to early childhood language development. Eligible applicants must be master's or doctoral students, attend an accredited U.S. institution, maintain full-time enrollment, major in the communication sciences, write a 10-page research plan, have IRB approval, and submit at least one letter of support.

3. Esther Katz Rosen Fund Grant

As one of the most profitable PhD grants for education, the Esther Katz Rosen Fund Grant is presented annually by the American Psychological Association (APA) for $50,000 to doctoral students devoting their dissertation to the unique learning needs of gifted and talented youth. 4. Federal TEACH Grant Program

Deadline: June 30th

Administered by the U.S. Department of Education, the Federal Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant program is open to PhD and EdD students enrolled at eligible graduate school to study a high-need field, including bilingual, foreign language, math, reading, science, and special education. For the $4,000 grant, applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.25, complete the FAFSA form, and agree to serve full-time at a low-income school upon graduation.

5. Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching

Deadline: November 4th

Through the Institute of International Education (IIE), the Fulbright Distinguished Award in Teaching can be used as a doctoral grant for teachers holding a master's degree from an accredited U.S. institution. The program covers full tuition and travel costs for studying at a host university abroad to expand teachers' global awareness. Qualified applicants must be fluent in English, work full-time at an elementary or secondary school, and have at least five years of classroom experience.

6. Hannah Beiter Graduate Research Grant

Sponsored by the Children's Literature Association (ChLA), the Hannah Beiter Graduate Research Grant provides up to $1,500 annually to support graduate students completing master's thesis or doctoral dissertation that contributes to the field of children's literature and literacy. 7. Head Start Graduate Student Research Grant

The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) has offered the Head Start Graduate Student Research Grant since 1998 to award $5,000 to doctoral students who are building research that expands knowledge on effective early childhood interventions for low-income children. To qualify, candidates must be enrolled full-time in a PhD or EdD program, attend an accredited U.S. university, work in partnership with local Head Start programs, and display clear interests in child development.

8. ILA Teacher as Researcher Grant

Valued at $5,000, the International Literacy Association (ILA) established the Teacher as Research Grant to support practicing PreK-12 teachers who are carrying out research, including doctoral dissertations, focused on reading, writing, language, or literacy education. Eligible applicants must be ILA members, have at least half-time teaching responsibilities, affiliate with an accredited U.S. higher learning institution, and submit a maximum 10-page research proposal online using Nimble Net.

9. Lydia Donaldson Tutt-Jones Research Grant

The African American Success Foundation (AASF) presents the Lydia Donaldson Tutt-Jones Research Grant annually for $3,000 to doctoral scholars who are studying the science of African American success, particularly in education. 10. Midwest Nursing Research Society Grant

The Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS) offers unique PhD grants for teachers wishing to become university faculty members and teach undergraduate or graduate nurses. 11. NCTM Mathematics Study Grant

In the amount of $6,000, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) gives the Mathematics Study Grant to financially support middle school teachers in grades 6-8 who are undertaking graduate study (master's or doctoral) to improve their practice of math education. 12. OAR Graduate Student Grants

Ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 apiece, the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) distributes multiple Graduate Student Grants annually to master's or doctoral students in the U.S. and abroad who are conducting research related to the assessment, intervention, and education of individuals with autism. Special education teachers could qualify by sending a personal cover letter, research abstract, project timeline/budget, evidence of IRB approval, signed letter of support, and explanation of practical relevance.

13. Phi Kappa Phi Literacy Grants

Since 1997, the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) America has awarded the Student Research Grant for $2,500 to master's and doctoral students who are conducting original research related to health education, physical education, sport, recreation, or dance education. 18. Sol Hirsch Education Fund Grant

In memory of his 30-year career with the Weather Bureau satellite program, the Sol Hirsch Education Fund Grant was created by the National Weather Association (NWA) to award $750 to K-12 science teachers seeking professional development to improve the education of their students in meteorology. DAAD Study Scholarship

Department of Energy Computational Science Graduate Fellowship
Funded by the Department of Energy’s Office of Science and National Nuclear Security Administration, the DOE CSGF trains scientists to meet the nation’s workforce needs and helps to create a nationwide interdisciplinary community. The fellowship provides support and guidance to some of the nation’s best scientific graduate students, and these graduates now work in DOE laboratories, private industry and educational institutions. EPA Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Fellowships for Graduate Environmental Study
Anticipated Type of Award: Fellowship Estimated Number of Awards: Approximately 55 awards. Anticipated Funding Amount: Approximately $7.2 million total for all awards Potential Funding per Fellowship: $44,000 per year per fellowship. Master's level students may receive support for a maximum of two years for a total of up to $88,000. Doctoral students may be supported for a maximum of three years for a total of up to $132,000, usable over a period of five years. Cost sharing is not required.
EPA Science to Achieve Results (STAR) Fellowships for Graduate Environmental Study
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as part of its Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program, is offering Graduate Fellowships for master’s and doctoral level students in environmental fields of study. The deadline for submission of applications is May 26, 2015 at 11:59:59 PM. Subject to availability of funding and other applicable considerations, the Agency plans to award approximately 55 new fellowships in the Fall of 2015. Ford Foundation Fellowship Programs
Through its Fellowships Programs, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. Fellowships are offered at the predoctoral, dissertation, and postdoctoral levels.
Fulbright US Student Award

Gates Cambridge Scholarships
In October 2000, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced a donation to the University of Cambridge of $210 million to establish the Gates Cambridge Trust. This benefaction creates in perpetuity an international scholarship program to enable outstanding graduate students from outside the United Kingdom to study at the University of Cambridge. The Trustees are required to award scholarships on the basis of a person's intellectual ability, leadership capacity, and desire to use their knowledge to contribute to society throughout the world by providing service to their communities and applying their talents and knowledge to improve the lives of others.
Health for America Fellowship
Health for America is a nonprofit organization creating solutions to improve the lives of people living with chronic disease. It funds the Health for America Fellowship, a yearlong venture where young professionals immerse themselves in the healthcare system, find opportunities for impact, and build innovative solutions to America’s most pressing health challenges. Fellows travel across the country to attend medical conferences, study design thinking, and meet with startup founders. They work each day to build a solution that is effective, sustainable, and commercially viable, recording their experiences along the way. Fellows share all of their findings with program partners so that patients may benefit for years to come. Each year, Health for America chooses a specific chronic condition for the Fellows to work on, based on need and the potential to create positive change. The Fellows spend the first few months learning about the condition and talking to people living with, caring for, and treating the disease. As a team, the Fellows then decide on their greatest opportunity for impact and their focus for the rest of the year. Health for America provides resources, support, and guidance, while the Fellows generally determine the pace of the Fellowship. This year’s Fellows spent the first three months immersing themselves in the healthcare system, developing content expertise in heart failure, methodological expertise in design thinking and lean startup methods, and getting a true grasp of opportunities to improve the lives of people living with heart failure and those caring for them. They spent the next several months brainstorming ideas and testing out the validity and impact of each new idea, both among experts and with user feedback. Now, the Fellows are in a solution phase, using continuous feedback to refine their idea into a polished prototype, and moving forward with an implementation plan and business model. The Fellows will be based in Washington, D.C. and Wilmington, Delaware.
Hertz Fellowships
The Hertz Foundation provides fellowships at some of the nation's leading universities for graduate work leading to award of the Ph.D. degree in the applied physical, biological and engineering sciences. Humanity in Action Fellowship
Intensive and demanding, the Humanity in Action Fellowship brings together international groups of college students and recent graduates to explore national histories of discrimination and resistance, as well as examples of issues affecting different minority groups today. Each program is highly interdisciplinary, and features daily lectures and discussions with renowned academics, journalists, politicians, and activists, as well as site visits to government agencies, non-profit and community organizations, museums, and memorials. The programs seek to highlight different models of action to remedy injustice. The objective of the Humanity in Action Fellowship is to facilitate a collective exploration of the social and political roots of discrimination, as well as to create a forum where potential solutions can be considered and discussed. The programs are also intended to instill a responsibility among Humanity in Action Fellows to recognize and address the need to protect minorities and promote human rights—in their own communities and around the world.
Immigrant Justice Corps Fellowship
Community Fellows are recent college graduates who conduct outreach and legal intake in underserved neighborhoods in New York. They screen immigrant New Yorkers for legal relief, and help them file applications for citizenship, green cards, DACA, Deferred Action for Parents, and more. Community Fellowships are available to students who are completing their undergraduate degree in 2015 or completed it in 2014 and are committed to immigrant justice. Community Fellows become Board of Immigration Appeals accredited representatives. They are placed in community-based host organizations throughout New York City, and their work is directly supervised by Immigrant Justice Corps’ staff attorneys.
Institute for Recruitment of Teachers
The Institute for Recruitment of Teachers aims to reduce over time the critical underrepresentation on the faculties of certain minority groups, as well as to address the attendant educational consequences of these disparities. Providing positive role models to youth, the institute serves the related goals of supporting school and campus environments. Through their yearly Intern Summer Workshop and The Associate Program, the institute supports throughout the graduate school application process outstanding college students and graduates from diverse backgrounds who are committed to these ideals.
John Lewis Fellowship
The John Lewis Fellowship will take place from July 5 through August 1, 2015, in Atlanta, Georgia. As the American program of the Humanity in Action Fellowship, the John Lewis Fellowship offers 30 American and European university students the opportunity to explore race and civil rights, immigration and Native American issues in Atlanta, Georgia. The program honors Congressman John Lewis, an icon of the Civil Rights Movement. Humanity in Action has partnered with The National Center for Civil and Human Rights, Inc., a major museum and civic institution in Atlanta, to create the fellowship. The John Lewis Fellowship is made possible by the generous support of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation provided through The Center. Fellows in the John Lewis Fellowship will attend discussions with renowned scholars and activists at The Center, visit historical sites around Atlanta and engage in discussions on a range of political and social issues. They will also draw upon the immense resources of The Center and contribute to its extensive and innovative outreach initiatives. Students from American universities will learn alongside Fellows from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands and Poland.
Kenan Academical Village Endowment Award
The William R. Kenan Endowment Fund of the Academical Village has established an endowment to fund educational outreach programs that further the educational mission of Jefferson’s Academical Village. In accord with the stated purposes of the endowment, the 2015 summer grants will support educational opportunities for students to conduct research projects that increase public understanding of the Academical Village. These research projects may include architectural or field internships; development of exhibitions and other educational opportunities to inform and engage the public (of all ages) in the history, evolution, and restoration of this World Heritage site; preparation of materials on historic preservation for publication and public distribution; and other educational outreach initiatives. At the conclusion of the research, award recipients must submit a final product (e.g., a creative project, a curriculum design, etc.) to document the results of the research project in publishable form along with a letter from the faculty sponsor assessing the outcome of the project.

Luce Scholars Program
The Luce Scholars Program is intended to enhance the understanding of Asia among potential leaders in American society. The program provides stipends, language training, and individualized professional placements in Asia for 15 to 18 young Americans each year. Placements can be made in the following countries: Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Madison Fellowship
The James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation was established by Congress in 1986 for the purpose of improving teaching about the United States Constitution in secondary schools. This fellowship is for graduate study leading to a master's degree.
Marshall Scholarship
Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a degree in the United Kingdom. Up to forty Scholars are selected each year to study at the graduate level at an UK institution in any field of study. Each scholarship is held for one or two years.
Mitchell Scholarship
The US-Ireland Alliance sponsors a competitive, national scholarship for graduate study by American citizens between the ages of 18 and 30 at institutions of higher learning on the island of Ireland. Named to honor the former U.S. Senator's pivotal contribution to the Northern Ireland peace process, the George J. Mitchell Scholarships are intended to familiarize and connect the next generation of American leadership with the island of Ireland. These Scholarships support one year of graduate study in any discipline offered by an institution of higher learning in Ireland or Northern Ireland.
NPR Kroc Fellowship
The NPR Kroc Fellowship identifies and develops a new generation of extraordinary public radio journalists. Over the course of a year, the three Kroc Fellows get rigorous, hands-on training in every aspect of public radio journalism, both on-air and online, including writing, reporting, producing and editing. Throughout the experience Kroc Fellows can expect to develop: Production and editorial skills, by working on an NPR program. Past fellows have worked at All Things Considered, Morning Edition, and Weekend Edition Saturday Reporting and on-air experience, by working under the guidance of NPR editors Web writing and multi-media production skills, by working with NPR Digital Media producers and editors First-hand broadcast journalism experience, by working at an NPR Member Station The Fellowship is designed to offer exposure to various units at NPR, in both the News and Digital Media Divisions, and at an NPR Member Station. NPR Kroc Fellows work alongside some of the nation's most respected reporters, producers and editors and receive regular instruction in writing for radio and on-air performance.
NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program
The purpose of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) is to help ensure the vitality and diversity of the scientific and engineering workforce in the United States. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees in fields within NSF's mission. The GRFP provides three years of support for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant achievements in science and engineering research. The ranks of NSF Fellows include individuals who have made transformative breakthroughs in science and engineering research and have become leaders in their chosen careers and Nobel laureates. The NSF expects to award 2,000 graduate research fellowships in this cycle.
National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship
As a means of increasing the number of U.S. citizens and nationals trained in science and engineering disciplines of military importance, the Department of Defense (DoD) plans to award approximately 200 new three-year graduate fellowships in April, subject to the availability of funds. The DoD will offer these fellowships to individuals who have demonstrated the ability and special aptitude for advanced training in science and engineering.
National Geographic Young Explorers Grant
Young Explorer Grants offer opportunities to individuals ages 18 to 25 to pursue research, conservation, and exploration-related projects consistent with National Geographic's existing grant programs, including: the Committee for Research and Exploration (CRE), the Expeditions Council (EC), and the Conservation Trust (CT). In addition, the YEG program recently teamed with the Luce Foundation to provide increased funding opportunities for fieldwork in 18 Northeast and Southeast Asian countries, including Brunei, Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, China, East Timor, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macau, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Committee for Research and Exploration funds hypothesis-based scientific research. Consult the CRE website for more information on the fields of research funded. The Conservation Trust funds innovative and applied approaches to conservation with potential for global application. Consult the CT website for more information on the types of projects funded. National Institutes of Health-Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program
The National Institutes of Health-Oxford-Cambridge Scholars Program is an accelerated, individualized doctoral training program for outstanding science students committed to biomedical research. It enables students to undertake a collaborative project in any area of biomedical investigation involving two mentors--one at the NIH intramural campus in Bethesda, Maryland, and one at either Oxford or Cambridge University. Students pursue either the PhD or the MD/PhD.
Payne International Development Fellowship Program
The USAID Donald M. Payne International Development Graduate Fellowship Program seeks to attract outstanding young people who are interested in pursuing careers in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The Payne Fellowship encourages the application of members of minority groups who have historically been underrepresented in international development careers and those with financial need. The fellowship is named in honor of longtime development champion, the late Congressman Donald Payne. The initiative is funded by USAID and administered by Howard University. Fellowship recipients can use the award to attend U.S. graduate programs throughout the country; they will join the USAID Foreign Service upon completion of the program, as long as they successfully complete the Payne Program and USAID entry requirements.
Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship
Every year, The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi awards 51 Fellowships of $5,000 each and six at $15,000 each to members entering their rst year of graduate or professional study. Each Phi Kappa Phi chapter may select one candidate from among its local applicants to compete for the Society-wide awards. Selection is based on the applicant’s promise of success in graduate or professional study, including academic achievement, service and leadership experience, letters of recommendation, work sample, personal statement and career goals, and acceptance at an approved graduate or professional program.
Pickering Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowship Program
The fellowship provides graduate funding to participants as they prepare academically and professionally to enter the U.S. Department of State Foreign Service. Winners are expected to enroll in a two-year, full-time master's degree program in either public policy, international affairs, or public administration, or in an academic field such as business, economics, political science, sociology, or foreign languages (U.S. graduate institutions only). Participants are obligated to serve five years in the foreign service.
Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowships
The Rangel Program is a collaborative effort between Howard University and the U.S. State Department that seeks to attract and prepare outstanding young people for careers as diplomats in the Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State. The program seeks individuals interested in helping to shape a freer, more secure and prosperous world through formulating, representing, and implementing U.S. foreign policy. The Program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need.
Rare Book School Fellowship Program at the University of Virginia
Thanks to a generous grant made possible by The Jefferson Trust, an initiative of the UVA Alumni Association, Rare Book School (RBS) invites students at the University of Virginia to apply for a fellowship designed to enhance UVA student research employing special collections, including written, printed, and born-digital materials. The RBS-UVA Fellowship Program provides UVA undergraduate and graduate students with scholarships to attend RBS’s celebrated courses on the history of books and printing—classes that are not available through UVA course offerings. The program introduces Fellows and their faculty sponsors to visiting peers and professionals in a dynamic environment that fosters hands-on collaborative research and interdisciplinary learning. The RBS-UVA Program not only provides Fellows with new tools and methods for engaging with primary source materials, it also publishes the scholarship of its participants (via its highly visited website), thereby providing other students with aspirational models of scholarly work and intellectual achievement. Undergraduate and graduate students attend seminars at RBS that directly inform year-long projects (viz., a Distinguished Major’s thesis, a scholarly article, a dissertation chapter, a conference paper, a public exhibit) that they are undertaking. Once accepted to the program, Fellows: • prepare readings for the RBS course to which they have been accepted; • attend an RBS course offered during 2012 (most RBS courses are offered at UVA in June and July). During their year in the program, Fellows and their UVA faculty sponsors will continue to participate in the program through: • visits to RBS and consultation with RBS faculty and staff during the conduct of their research; • the submission of final projects for the Fellows’ interactive module on the RBS website; • the program’s annual forum and awards luncheon; • the completion of a year-end evaluation of the program.
Raven Fellowship - U.Va.
The University of Virginia's Raven Society established the Raven Fellowships in 1984 to encourage undergraduate and graduate students to undertake scholarly, intellectual, and creative projects. The Raven Society endeavors to bring together outstanding students, faculty, administrators, and alumni of the various schools of the University that they may derive the benefits of mutual acquaintance in pursuit of diligent scholarship and intellectual activity beyond the limits of systematic work in the classroom. As such, the Raven Fellowships will be targeted towards innovative research projects that cross disciplines in novel ways. While all applications will be reviewed, special consideration will be given to those projects with a distinctly interdisciplinary focus. The Raven Society will award research fellowships in support of summer or fall independent research projects. Research may be related to a dissertation or thesis, however, it is strongly encouraged that the projects go above and beyond what is for academic credit. Each fellowship will award up to $2500, and each Fellowship recipient will receive the award at the Raven Society's annual banquet. Applications from undergraduate and graduate students will be given equal consideration. You need not be a member of the Raven Society to apply.
Rhodes Scholarship
The Rhodes Scholarships were established in 1903 by Cecil Rhodes, who dreamed of improving the world through the diffusion of leaders motivated to serve their contemporaries, trained in the contemplative life of the mind, and broadened by their acquaintance with one another and by their exposure to cultures different from their own. Mr. Rhodes hoped that his plan of bringing able students from throughout the English-speaking world and beyond to study at Oxford University would aid in the promotion of international understanding and peace. Each year 32 Rhodes Scholars are chosen from the US.
SMART Scholarship Program (Department of Defense)
The Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service Program provides full scholarships to students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The SMART program aims to increase the number of scientists and engineers in the Department of Defense.
Schwarzman Scholarship
Designed to inspire the next generation of global leaders, Schwarzman Scholars is the most significant program of its kind since the Rhodes Trust was founded in 1902. With a $350 million endowment, it will also be the single largest philanthropic effort ever undertaken in China by largely international donors. The 200 scholars chosen annually for this highly selective program will work towards a one-year Master’s Degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing—one of China’s most prestigious universities. As individuals who want to have a positive impact on the world, the Stephen A. Schwarzman Scholars will be selected based on their academic credentials, extracurricular interests and leadership potential. During their stay, students will be given access to a privileged range of cultural and academic experiences, from travel to all corners of China to exchanges with global leaders and mentorship with experts in their chosen discipline. They will also spend their year immersed in the local economy and social life—before classes begin, a summer orientation will provide opportunities to learn Chinese, explore Beijing and meet fellow students and faculty.
Scoville Peace Fellowship
The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship Program invites college graduates to apply for full-time, six-to-nine month Fellowships in Washington, DC. Outstanding individuals will be selected to work with nonprofit, public-interest organizations addressing peace and security issues. Applications are especially encouraged from candidates with a strong interest in these issues who have prior experience with public-interest activism or advocacy.
Soros Fellowships for New Americans
The purpose of The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowships for New Americans is to provide opportunities for continuing generations of able and accomplished New Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields. The Program is established in recognition of the contributions New Americans have made to American life and in gratitude for the opportunities the United States has afforded the donors and their family. Thirty awards are made each year.

The Thermo Scientific Pierce Scholarship Program for the Fall 2014 semester includes two (2) $10,000 scholarships and four (4) $5,000 scholarships, to be awarded to undergraduate and graduate students with a declared major of biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related life-science field. To qualify for the scholarship, students must have a GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and be enrolled in an accredited college for university for the Fall 2014 semester. In addition to these qualifications, students must also be legal United States residents, meaning that students possessing appropriate Visa status in order to study in the United States are also eligible.
U.S. Department of Energy Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship Program (MLEF)
The Mickey Leland Energy Fellowship (MLEF) Program provides students with an opportunity to gain and develop research skills with the Department of Energy’s Office of Fossil Energy for 10 weeks over the summer. For 20 years, this program has increased awareness of DOE research opportunities to students pursuing STEM degrees (science, technology, engineering and math). The goal of the program is to improve opportunities for women and minority students in these fields, however all eligible candidates are encouraged to apply. Stipends start at $600 per week and eligible Fellows will receive an additional travel and housing allowance.
Wallerstein Scholarship
The Wallerstein Scholarship was established in 1973 at the University of Virginia by a gift from Ruth C. and Morton L. Wallerstein to foster interest and research in Virginia local government. It provides support to an exceptional individual for a period of one year for the purpose of undertaking research as a graduate student or fourth-year undergraduate student at the University of Virginia. Several previous scholarship recipients hold policy-making and management positions in state and local government in Virginia. The annual Scholarship is administered by the Virginia Municipal League (VML) and the University of Virginia’s Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service.
Yenching Academy of Peking University Fellowships
The Yenching Academy of Peking University is a one year Master of Arts in Chinese Studies program (in English). It is designed to prepare an elite class of future leaders to meet the challenges of the 21st century global landscape. The Yenching Academy provides an extraordinary education experience that draws from western and eastern perspectives; cultivates leaders who will advocate for global progress and cultural understanding. All students of the Yenching Academy will be Yenching Scholars. Students admitted to the program will be fully funded - tuition, fees, housing and a stipend for living costs. Yenching Scholars will receive Chinese language instruction tailored to their needs, and will study a core curriculum on their way to a one-year Master’s in Chinese Studies. Academy students with advanced Chinese are able to take courses in that language, in addition to the language tutorials they might have. They may elect one of the following areas of concentration: • Literature and Culture • History and Archaeology • Philosophy and Religion • Politics and International Relations • Economics and Management • Law and Society The Yenching Academy is a residential college within Peking University. Scholars share classroom learning experience, engage in informal dialogues through extra-curricular activities, student-initiated seminars and field studies in different parts of China.
